Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has renewed his stance that no massacre occurred at the Lekki Tollgate during the 2020 EndSARS protest, insisting that five years later, no family has reported a missing son or daughter linked to the incident.
Titansloaded reports that Mohammed made the statement during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, where he accused international media, especially CNN, of spreading what he described as false narratives about the protest.
According to him, CNN was not at the tollgate and relied on what he termed “unverified, second-hand information” to produce its controversial documentary on the incident.
Mohammed said:
“If a man has a goat and the goat does not come home, he will look for it. Five years on, nobody has come forward to say their ward or child went to the tollgate and never returned. The so-called massacre is fake news.”
The former minister, who came under intense scrutiny in 2020, revealed that the pressure from the nationwide backlash was so heavy that his family once begged him to resign from office.
He maintained that while the EndSARS protest was tragic and unfortunate, the allegation of a mass killing at the Lekki Tollgate remains unproven.
The renewed comment has once again ignited nationwide reactions as the EndSARS debate continues to resurface five years after the historic youth-led movement.
