The Nigeria Debate Consortium, a partnership of five leading media organisations, is set to launch its 2027 election debate series with a Lagos governorship debate on Sunday, November 8.
Titiansloaded reports that the event will begin at 7pm at The Hub by IALA, House of His Glory, Plot 18, Providence Road, Marwa, Lekki, Lagos.
The consortium brings together Channels Television, TVC News, Punch Newspaper, TheCable and Vanguard Newspaper.

According to the organisers, the debate will give governorship candidates an opportunity to present their policy proposals, explain their positions and respond to concerns affecting Lagos residents.
Topics expected to feature in the discussion include transportation, infrastructure, security, housing, education, healthcare, employment and economic development.
The consortium said the initiative aims to help voters evaluate the candidates’ plans and readiness to lead the state before the election.
Channels Television said the event forms part of the media’s role in supporting informed voting and holding political leaders accountable. It maintained that voters should be able to assess candidates through clear responses and practical policy proposals rather than campaign promises alone.

The broadcaster added that the debate would place Lagos’ future, alongside the ideas and issues shaping the state, at the heart of the election conversation.
TVC News also called for discussions centred on policy, noting that candidates should explain how they intend to translate their promises into action.
The organisers said all participants would be treated equally under a framework built on fairness, neutrality and editorial independence. Candidates will be subject to the same debate rules, speaking limits and moderation standards.
The event will be moderated by experienced journalists and transmitted to national and digital audiences through the participating media outlets.

The consortium encouraged Lagos residents, eligible voters, young people, civil society groups, professional associations and business stakeholders to watch the debate and take part in discussions about the state’s future.
The Lagos event will kick off the consortium’s debate engagements in selected competitive states ahead of the 2027 general elections. The series is expected to conclude with a presidential debate and town hall.
Among the prominent contenders for the Lagos governorship seat are Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Funso Doherty of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
