The UN warns on school attacks Nigeria situation has drawn fresh global attention as the United Nations expresses deep concern over the rising wave of terrorist attacks targeting schools across the country.
According to Titansloaded reports, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organisation is “very concerned” about continued attacks on schools and students by extremist groups operating in Nigeria.
Dujarric made the statement while responding to questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) following recent coordinated attacks on schools in parts of the country, including incidents that led to abductions and killings.
He warned that the UN warns on school attacks Nigeria development reflects a dangerous trend that is already having devastating effects on communities, particularly in affected regions where fear and insecurity are rising.
Reports indicate that armed groups recently attacked schools in Oyo State, where dozens of pupils and teachers were abducted. In the same incident, two teachers were reportedly killed by the attackers.
The UN described such incidents as deeply troubling, stressing that repeated assaults on learning institutions undermine access to education and stability in vulnerable communities.
“We’re, of course, very concerned. We have seen the continued attacks on children, on places of education in Nigeria by extremist groups,” Dujarric said.
He also noted that UN Secretary-General António Guterres is closely monitoring the security situation in Nigeria and remains concerned about increasing terrorist activities in some parts of the country.
The UN warns on school attacks Nigeria message further highlighted the impact of recent joint military operations involving Nigerian and U.S. forces targeting ISIS-linked groups operating within the region.
Dujarric explained that the UN system in Nigeria is actively working with the federal and state governments to strengthen school protection mechanisms and reduce vulnerability to attacks.
He said the UN country team has been engaged in collaborative efforts aimed at improving safety measures in schools located in high-risk areas.
“The UN country team in Nigeria, in all its components, has been working with the Government in the impacted region,” he said.
He added that the organisation will continue supporting initiatives designed to ensure safer learning environments for students and teachers across the country.
The UN warns on school attacks Nigeria statement underscores growing international concern over insecurity in Nigeria’s education sector as extremist groups continue to target schools in different regions.
