Controversial Nigerian artist, Darlington Achakpo Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or AKP, has revealed an interesting conversation he had with a policeman who criticized him for dropping his new track *“Baby Oil”* right after his release from detention.
Speed Darlington took to Instagram to share details of his encounter with the police officer. According to the singer, the policeman expressed his dissatisfaction with Speed Darlington’s decision to release a song so soon after his release, following his arrest, which was allegedly instigated by Burna Boy over defamation claims.
The policeman, according to Speed Darlington, told him that the song seemed to be a response to his detention, questioning why he would drop a track immediately after his release. Speed Darlington responded by asking the officer, “Are you mentally OK? Won’t I do music again? I’m an artist.”
The artist went on to explain that if the song resonated with anyone personally, it was purely coincidental, adding, “If it sounds like it’s for you, then it’s for you.”
This post comes just hours after his lawyer, Stan Alieke, announced that he is officially severing ties with Speed Darlington. The Abuja-based lawyer, who represented the musician in his ongoing legal battle with Burna Boy, shared a post on Instagram revealing that both he and his law firm had withdrawn from representing the artist. However, Stan Alieke did not provide further details on why he made this decision.
Speed Darlington has become well-known for his controversial persona, and this latest development adds more fuel to the fire surrounding his public image. With his lawyer out of the picture, fans and industry insiders will be watching closely to see how Speed Darlington navigates this latest chapter in his tumultuous career.
