Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has reiterated his government’s readiness to commit to the democratic ideals of justice and accountability. He recently vowed to keep leading a people-centred administration that delivers good results in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and security.
Speaking via a powerful message to commemorate Democracy Day, Usman described June 12 as a defining moment in the country’s journey towards democratic governance.
He paid tribute to the heroes of the 1993 presidential election, stressing that today is a solemn reminder that democracy is not gifted, it is earned.
“Today, we celebrate as one people, united in history, in hope, and in purpose,” he said.

Acknowledging the sacrifices of pro-democracy heroes, Governor Usman hailed President Tinubu as one of the foremost figures who helped birth the democratic freedoms citizens now enjoy.
He urged Nigerians to remember that they are not just beneficiaries of the democracy earned through the blood and sweat of our past heroes; they are also stewards of its promise.
The governor concluded by emphasising that democracy only thrives when it is participatory and accountable.
“The sacrifices made by pro-democracy heroes, including our father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, must never be forgotten.
We are not only beneficiaries of the democracy earned through the blood and sweat of our heroes; we are stewards of its promise.
To our youth, you are not the leaders of tomorrow; you are the true guardians of our democracy today. This democracy belongs to you.
Let us remember that democracy is strengthened not by titles, but by service…not by rhetoric, but by results.
Let us rise together in the spirit of nationhood. Let us stand together in the pursuit of progress. Let us walk together on the path of peace, equity, and sustainable development,” he added.
