R. Kelly’s legal team has filed an emergency motion seeking his immediate release from prison. They recently cited credible threats to their client’s life within the North Carolina prison where he is serving a 30-year sentence for sex crimes.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, there have been several allegations of a murder-for-hire plot involving prison officials and inmates targeting the disgraced singer.
R. Kelly’s motion includes a sworn statement from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate and leader of the Aryan Brotherhood gang, who said authorities offered him freedom in exchange for killing the singer.
Glenn disclosed that prison officials actually promised him a breakout if he carried out the hit, with the plan including a staged cover-up of the murder.

The documents added that Glenn personally warned Kelly about the plot in March after he decided not to carry it out, and he expressed his readiness to take a polygraph test and testify.
Kelly’s lawyers have warned that, after Glenn’s defection, another Aryan Brotherhood member has allegedly been contracted to kill both Kelly and Glenn, and the prison reportedly houses several gang affiliates who are prepared to strike.
In a different filing, Kelly also asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case, with his legal team suggesting home confinement would better guarantee his safety and allow him to pursue ongoing music projects.
Whether the singer’s fear for his life inside prison will appear genuine enough to facilitate his release from prison remains to be seen.
