The Plateau killings Lagos evacuation has drawn national attention as the Lagos State Government moved swiftly to rescue its indigenes studying at the University of Jos following escalating violence in Plateau State.
Titansloaded reports that over 200 students were safely evacuated from Jos after rising insecurity forced the closure of the institution and suspension of academic activities.
The evacuation, carried out on the directive of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, was coordinated through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, with buses and security escorts deployed to ensure a smooth and safe journey back to Lagos.
Officials confirmed that the operation was successfully executed without incident, with students transported under tight security arrangements.
Receiving the students, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, explained that the move was necessary to protect the lives of Lagos indigenes amid the worsening security situation in Jos.
He reassured parents and guardians that the government prioritised the safety and well-being of the students, noting that necessary support measures, including medical checks and proper debriefing, were provided upon arrival.
Authorities also commended security agencies for their cooperation in ensuring a hitch-free evacuation process.
The Lagos State Government further reiterated its commitment to closely monitoring the situation in Plateau State while expressing hope for a quick restoration of peace.
The evacuation highlights growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, with many calling for stronger measures to safeguard citizens, particularly students studying outside their home states.
