Former Nigerian international, Osaze Odemwingie, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint Augustine Eguavoen as the permanent coach of the Super Eagles. Odemwingie shared his thoughts during an interview with Brila FM, praising Eguavoen’s performance in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Odemwingie, who once worked with Eguavoen during his time at Bendel Insurance, highlighted the coach’s passion and commitment. “Eguavoen was the general manager when I signed my first professional contract with Bendel Insurance under him. He’s a lesson to our country—well-spoken, committed as a player, and now as a coach,” Odemwingie said.
He continued to emphasize Eguavoen’s consistent dedication to the Super Eagles and his impressive track record, having secured 7 points in 3 AFCON qualifying games. According to Odemwingie, Eguavoen’s passion for the job and his willingness to step in whenever needed make him a reliable option for the team.
“He’s involved with CAF, takes coaching courses, and is a blessing to have. Whether permanent or not, he’s always ready for the job because it’s home for him, and it’s his passion,” Odemwingie added.
The former Super Eagles winger expressed that if Eguavoen desires the role permanently and presents a solid plan, it would be worth considering by the NFF. He concluded by wishing Eguavoen success in his current role and possible future as the permanent head coach of the national team.
