Democrats have won control of the United States House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, delivering a major setback to President Donald Trump and his Republican Party.
Titiansloaded reports that the victory gives Democrats greater influence over congressional proceedings and the power to intensify scrutiny of the Trump administration during the final two years of his presidency.
According to the BBC, Democrats secured a majority in the House, where all 435 seats were contested. However, vote counting continued in some states, with several races yet to be fully called.

The party also made significant gains in key Senate contests, defeating Republican candidates in Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio, while retaining Democratic seats in Georgia and New Hampshire.
In Texas, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton, becoming the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in the state since 1988.
South Carolina also recorded a historic result, as Democrat Annie Andrews defeated Republican Darline Graham. Andrews became the first woman elected to represent the state in the Senate and the first Democrat to win a Senate seat there in more than two decades.
In North Carolina, former governor Roy Cooper defeated Republican Michael Whatley, while Herod Brown won Ohio’s Senate race against Republican incumbent Jon Husted.

Despite the Democratic gains, the final balance of power in the Senate remained unresolved in the latest reports.
The November 3 elections determined the composition of Congress, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats contested. The outcome could significantly affect Trump’s legislative priorities.
A Democratic-controlled House could launch investigations into the president, members of his family and controversial decisions made by his administration, the BBC reported.
Trump sought to distance himself from the Republican losses, claiming that his absence from the ballot affected the outcome.
“I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” he wrote on Truth Social.

However, in an interview with The New York Times, Trump said he was prepared to accept the results and cooperate with Democrats.
“We’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out,” he said.
The Associated Press reported that Trump had endorsed several Republican candidates who lost, including Paxton and Graham
