Popular Nigerian singer African China has said that the artists reigning now are not doing enough to challenge injustice in Nigeria. He recently shared that the present generation of singers can do more to hold leaders accountable.
Speaking during an interview with OGHENOVO EGODO-MICHAEL, African China revealed that while some social media influencers are doing their bit to be the voice of the people, singers are not addressing critical issues with their songs.
According to him, it is obvious that Nigeria is now filled with selfish musicians who only care about using protests to promote their songs about frivolous things.
“No, they are not. They don’t even do up to two per cent of what they ought to do. Only some influencers on social media are trying, but for musicians to use their music to speak, it’s a big “no” for them.
As far as I’m concerned, they are so selfish that they only come to protest to promote their songs about alcohol, sex and drugs,” he said.

He further noted that he recorded his hit track “Mr President” because he has always dreamt of a better Nigeria.
African China stated that watching his dad do everything possible to give his kids a better life was the inspiration he needed to demand a better nation.
He concluded by saying that his background helped him to remain focused in life because he cannot afford to do anything to ruin his family name.
“It’s because I wanted a sweet and better Nigeria, having witnessed everything my father went through to give us a better life, and I know it will happen if we have a better and a working Nigeria.
My background helped me to stay focused, especially because I never wanted to soil my family name by doing something bad,” he added.
