President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly departed Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage, during which he is expected to offer special prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity and national development.
The Nigerian leader reportedly left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon, embarking on a spiritual journey aimed at seeking divine guidance and blessings for the country.
According to information attributed to the Presidency, the visit is intended to provide the President with an opportunity for spiritual reflection, religious devotion and prayers for the nation’s continued progress.
Tinubu is expected to use the pilgrimage to seek divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs, particularly concerning national security, economic stability, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
The journey comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address various challenges confronting the country, including economic hardship, insecurity and the need to strengthen national unity.
Umrah is a significant Islamic religious exercise that involves travelling to the holy city of Makkah to perform prescribed rites, offer prayers and seek spiritual renewal. Unlike Hajj, which is performed during a designated period of the Islamic calendar, Umrah can be undertaken at different times throughout the year.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria upon completing the religious rites, although the exact date of his return has not been disclosed.
The reported visit highlights Tinubu’s intention to seek spiritual guidance while offering prayers for the country’s peace, stability and prosperity.
