Springfield Private School/Bosede Idehen International Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to making every week of the academic calendar meaningful, insisting that learners should resume fully and commence academic activities from the first day of a new session.
The Director of the school, Madam Maureen Idehen Ovabor, made this known while speaking on the institution’s approach to academic resumption and attendance.
According to her, the practice of treating the first week of resumption as a period when learners are not expected to attend school does not align with the school’s educational philosophy or its commitment to international standards.
Madam Idehen Ovabor said every week contained in the academic calendar is important and should be utilized for teaching and learning.
She explained that schools should make adequate preparations during the holiday period so that classrooms and other facilities are ready before learners return.
“The school must be prepared for learners during the holiday. Classes must take place immediately. Support staff can take care of things in the school; students and teachers should not be doing that when they are expected to be learning and teaching.”
The Director also noted that activities such as cleaning, maintenance and other preparations should be handled by designated support personnel before resumption, rather than using the first week of the academic session for such activities.
School Introduces Perfect Attendance For Week One
In a bid to encourage parents to ensure their children resume on the first day, Springfield Private School introduced its Perfect Attendance for Week One initiative.
Under the initiative, learners who maintain full attendance throughout the first week are recognized and rewarded by the school.
The school also organizes a Pizza Date on the final day of the first week as part of activities designed to encourage learners and make the opening week memorable.
The initiative, which has been sustained for more than two terms, is part of the school’s effort to promote punctuality, regular attendance and early engagement with academic activities.
The school believes that waiting until the second week before full academic participation can affect the amount of learning time available to learners.
School Highlights Facilities, Plans For More
Meanwhile, the Director highlighted some of the facilities currently available at Springfield Private School/Bosede Idehen International Academy, stressing that the resources are designed to improve learners’ educational experience.
The school currently has Montessori learning facilities, a Special Educational Needs (SEN) room, well-equipped classrooms, Science Laboratories and ICT facilities, among others.
Madam Idehen Ovabor said the school is also working to bring in additional facilities and resources as part of its ongoing investment in education.
She emphasised that the facilities are primarily for the benefit of learners and are intended to create an environment where students can learn, explore, develop practical skills, and receive appropriate educational support.
The Director’s position reflects the school’s broader emphasis on academic discipline, attendance, modern learning facilities and continuous improvement as it seeks to provide learners with an educational experience aligned with contemporary standards.
