The Peace Corps of Nigeria, Lagos Command, marked Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14, 2025, with a unique celebration aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among officers.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Lagos State Commandant, Badmus Akeem, emphasized the significance of the day, describing it as an opportunity to share love and strengthen bonds within the command. He noted that Valentine’s Day should be a moment to extend kindness, and the command saw it fit to commemorate the occasion in a special way.

The event featured a variety of indoor games, including snooker, card games, chess, and table tennis, providing an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees. Officers expressed their excitement, stating that it was the first of its kind in the command’s history and hoping for its continuity in subsequent years.
As part of the festivities, officers exchanged gifts, with Commandant Dr Badmus Akeem personally organizing a raffle draw for fair distribution of presents. In his speech, he encouraged officers to embrace the spirit of giving without expecting equal returns, emphasizing that the essence of Valentine’s Day lies in selfless love and generosity.
“We are peace ambassadors, and we should take pride in promoting love and unity wherever we go. This marks a new phase for the Lagos Command, and I am here to serve and take it to greater heights,” the commandant stated.
He further urged officers to remain committed to their duties, uphold discipline, and encourage one another, stressing that their collective efforts would ensure the success of their mission. “This journey requires dedication, and we must all work together to reach our final destination. We are peace officers, we are family, and we stand as one,” he concluded.
