Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Leo Dasilva, has called on men to prioritize their mental health and overall well-being. In a social media post, Dasilva highlighted the harmful effects of societal expectations placed on men, particularly the phrase “Be a man,” which he argued is often used to silence men and ignore their happiness.
Dasilva emphasized that it is crucial for men to take care of their mental health, noting that they cannot effectively support others if they are not well themselves. He described the common statement as a trigger for toxic masculinity, reinforcing harmful stereotypes.

He wrote, “’Be a man’ is a statement masked in silencing men, ignoring their happiness, and a trigger for toxicity. It’s okay for you as a man to also prioritize your mental health and general well-being. If you are not fine, you cannot effectively take care of anyone.”
His comments come amid growing awareness around mental health issues, with increasing conversations on the importance of emotional well-being for men who often face societal pressures to suppress their emotions.
