Parts of Abuja will experience a scheduled power outage on Thursday, October 24, 2024, due to planned maintenance work at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the outage will begin at 9 am and last until 6 pm, as its engineers carry out essential upgrades.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed the maintenance in a statement on Wednesday. The work involves installing a new 33kV disconnector on the L31 line bay, aimed at improving transmission efficiency in the Federal Capital Territory. This scheduled maintenance comes amid national grid issues that have recently caused widespread blackouts across Nigeria.
“TCN engineers will be installing a new 33kV disconnector on the L31 line bay at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation in Abuja,” the statement read. “This work is crucial for ensuring optimal performance of the substation.”
During the maintenance, one of the 60MVA transformers will be offline for nine hours, impacting power supply to various areas. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will not be able to receive bulk power from this transformer during the outage, affecting distribution to customers in Galadima, Kabusa, Sunnyvale, Suncity Estate, Wonderland, Human Right Radio, Brilla FM, Kubusa Garden Estate, Jewel Apartment, and other neighboring communities.
