Thailand is considering enforcing overnight closures of petrol stations as part of urgent measures to save fuel amid fears of tightening global supplies, President Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed.
Titansloaded reports that the government is evaluating a plan to close petrol stations between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., potentially starting April 20. The decision follows growing concerns over fuel shortages driven by international energy disruptions and rising oil prices.
President Anutin assured the public that closures would not affect travel during the Songkran festival, Thailand’s annual New Year celebration, and emphasized that residents would still be able to travel safely during the holiday period.
The government also urged citizens to conserve energy by working from home, using public transport, and practicing responsible fuel usage. While Thailand maintains relatively high oil reserves, officials stressed the need for strategic fuel management to avoid disruptions amid global supply pressures.
The proposal forms part of a broader discussion on emergency energy-saving measures, as the country faces public concerns over rising fuel prices and recent supply challenges.
