Veteran Hollywood director Michael Mann was taken to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a private gun range in Los Angeles, with his publicist confirming that the injury was superficial.
Titiansloaded reports that the 83-year-old filmmaker was at The Range LA, a members-only indoor shooting club in the western part of the city, when the incident occurred at around 4pm on Saturday.
According to a source cited by TMZ, Mann was attempting to holster his firearm when it discharged. Police officers and emergency crews responded to the scene before he was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Mann’s publicist later told the Daily Mail that the director had received medical attention and was being discharged.
“On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released,” the publicist said.
Police confirmed the location of the incident to TMZ and described it as accidental. A police report stated that Mann was injured during a training exercise after unintentionally firing a weapon into his own leg.
The filmmaker is best known for directing the 1995 crime thriller Heat. His other credits include Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Ali and Collateral. He has received four Academy Award nominations but has yet to win an Oscar.
Mann’s most recent film, Ferrari, featuring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz, was released in 2023.

The director is currently developing a follow-up to Heat, based on Heat 2, the bestselling novel he co-wrote with thriller author Meg Gardiner and published in 2022.
Variety reported last month that Stephen Graham had joined the project, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Driver, Jason Clarke and Odessa Young. The actors’ roles have not been confirmed.
Mann has written the screenplay and is expected to direct the movie. He will also produce it alongside Jerry Bruckheimer.
