The Regent of Idanre Kingdom, His Royal Highness, High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to preserving peace, protecting the rich cultural heritage of the kingdom, and ensuring a smooth, transparent, and dignified transition process toward the emergence of a new Owa of Idanre in accordance with long-established customs and traditions.
Speaking through a statement released on behalf of the palace, the Regent emphasized that the sacred responsibility of leadership at this critical period is not driven by politics or personal interest, but by the solemn duty to safeguard the throne and uphold the integrity of the revered traditional institution of Idanre Kingdom.
According to the statement, the process of selecting an Owa is deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition and ancestral order, involving the royal lineage, kingmakers, chiefs, and other established customary institutions handed down through generations.
His Royal Highness noted that his role as Regent remains focused on maintaining stability, unity, fairness, and respect for tradition until the rightful Owa ascends the throne.
“Idanre Kingdom must remain united, peaceful, and progressive. Leadership at this moment is about responsibility, preservation of culture, and service to the people,” the statement read.
The palace also shared documented moments from the traditional rites and customary processes duly performed in the emergence of High Chief Akinloye Akinboni as the Ojomu of Idanre Kingdom, clarifying that the rites associated with the title were neither ignored nor bypassed.
It was further explained that the traditional processes were formally initiated, supervised, and completed under the authority and guidance of the late revered monarch, Oba Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, before he joined his ancestors on July 30, 2024.
The statement stressed that every traditional throne in Yoruba land is founded upon sacred procedures, cultural values, and ancestral legitimacy, adding that the late Owa ensured that all necessary rites and responsibilities connected to the Ojomu title were properly carried out before his passing.
According to the palace, the records and evidence being presented are not intended to fuel controversy, but rather to preserve historical truth, protect the integrity of Idanre customs, and promote public understanding of the kingdom’s traditional processes.
“The seal of His Royal Highness, High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, Regent of Idanre Kingdom, stands as a reminder that leadership is not merely about power, but about duty, honor, wisdom, and service to tradition and the people,” the statement concluded.
