The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that the People’s Democratic Party will not stand a chance against President Bola Tinubu in 2027. He recently revealed that his party will be unable to compete with the APC if it doesn’t change its zoning system.
Speaking to the press during a live media chat, Wike revealed that the constant non-adherence of PDP to its constitutional provisions will definitely prove costly in two years’ time.
According to him, some members manipulated the provisions of the party for their own selfish interests during the 2023 general elections, and that led to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as PDP’s presidential candidate.
Wike stated that if Atiku is PDP’s flagbearer again in 2027, and Iyorchia Ayu continues as party chairman, the Northern combination would most likely backfire in the next presidential election.
“If PDP does not take care, and I say it again, watch out for what will happen. You know, selfish interest can kill an organisation.
You have not won an election; you are excluding people. Let us tell ourselves the simple truth; in 2023, we told the party, it is in our constitution, it is in our tradition, when these people take the chairman, these people will take the Presidential Candidate.
Because of selfish interests, they manipulated the system,” he said.

Wike believes that PDP playing the same game that failed 2 years ago would be a recipe for another disaster in 2027, and he hopes the decision makers will heed his warning before it is too late.
The Minister concluded by saying that selfishness is killing the system in the People’s Democratic Party, and selfish leaders are failing to see the problem, let alone address it.
“They said no, we should not do zoning now. Before we knew, some people had gone to buy forms. Now, a zone took the chairman of the party, a zone took the presidential candidate.
Of course, arrogance came in, ‘Forget it; we have won the election.’ See where we are. And I’ve told them, where are you zoning your presidential candidate now? Where will it go? Why not, as a party, come out openly now and say our presidential candidate will also come from the south? You don’t want to do that.
You want to play the same game you played in 2023. It will backfire. The point here is that selfishness can kill a system,” he added.
