The Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy has inaugurated its Toastmasters Club Lagos to strengthen the communication and public-speaking skills of Public Affairs Officers in the state civil service. The launch, themed “The Power of Words, The Birth of Leaders,” was held at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic Hall on Friday.
Titansloaded reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, described the club as a transformative platform that helps members refine their creativity and sharpen their public-speaking abilities. He noted that officers in the information sector are expected to communicate with confidence and urged them to cultivate composure and clarity when addressing the public.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Lanre Bajulaiye, expressed excitement at witnessing the club’s inauguration during his service years. He encouraged pioneer members to make the most of the opportunity by participating actively, maintaining discipline, reading widely, and always being prepared to speak when called upon.
Area Director and Club Sponsor, TM Funmi Omotoso, likened the establishment of the Toastmasters Club Lagos to the joy of welcoming a new baby, noting that becoming a Toastmaster is a lifelong journey that greatly enhances communication skills. She commended the ministry’s leadership and the executives of the new club for their commitment to the initiative.
The newly inducted Charter President and Director of Strategy Centre, TM Kayode Oyekanmi, expressed excitement over the club’s launch, describing it as the beginning of a promising and impactful future. He assured members that, with teamwork and dedication, the club would meet and exceed expectations. Oyekanmi also extended heartfelt appreciation to Commissioner Omotoso, Area Director Funmi Omotoso, Permanent Secretary Bajulaiye, and the immediate past Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olumide Sogunle, for championing the vision that has now become a reality.
The inauguration featured signature segments of a Toastmasters meeting, including Speaking Off the Cuff, Table Topics, and Prepared Speeches, with participants skillfully incorporating the Word of the Day, “Euphoria,” into their presentations—drawing admiration from the audience.
The establishment of the Toastmasters Club Lagos marks a major step toward improving communication excellence within the Lagos State Civil Service, equipping Public Affairs Officers with the tools to lead confidently and communicate effectively.
