President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the $25bn gas pipeline project between Nigeria and Morocco, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has said. The senator representing Nigeria at the executive session of the African Parliament Union made the announcement in Casablanca.
He revealed that the gas initiative is one of the current government’s priority projects, and the President is set to review every abandoned project to ensure a quick completion.
Jimoh stated that the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline is designed to transport 30 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually across a distance of 5,660 km.
The pipeline’s route will traverse 13 African nations, including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco, with Nigeria serving as the central gas supplier.
According to Jimoh, the transformative potential of the project cannot be emphasised because it will go a long way towards creating more jobs and aiding regional development.

“This project is expected to create thousands of jobs, boost industrial and digital development, and contribute to a more sustainable energy future for the participating countries,” he said.
He further said that Morocco is set to benefit majorly from its completion, noting that it’ll make it easier for the African nation to supply European countries with gas.
He urged the North African country to consider the opportunities the project is set to generate and revisit its visa policy for Nigerian visitors.
Jimoh believes that it is only fair for Nigerian citizens to be allowed entry into the country without visa restrictions, given the level of opportunity that the new investment will generate for both nations.
