The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused opposition leaders of being behind the Christian genocide allegation against President Bola Tinubu’s government. He recently alleged that the opposition is plotting to divide Nigerians because they know they cannot defeat Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wike said that the genocide allegation was politically motivated.
According to him, Trump’s threat is aimed at destabilising the current government, and it is very obvious that BAT’s desperate detractors are behind the genocide accusation.
He stated that the political opposition has grown frustrated following the collapse of their political base, so they’re doing everything to derail the president’s good plans for the nation.
“In 2015 under Jonathan, people capitalised on this kind of things to get power.
It’s very obvious.
The problem we have today is that, by Mr President’s nature of politics, you can see the collapse of the opposition,” he said.

Wike further noted that some opposition figures are intentionally exploiting religion to sow division and weaken national unity ahead of 2027.
He concluded by saying that no matter what the opposition does, no political party is ready to challenge Tinubu’s return to power.
“There are so many undercurrents going on. The opposition has seen that, with the way it is, no party is prepared to challenge the President’s return to power. What do we do? Should we allow him to just go in like that without challenges? We must do something.
And one of it is to bring up something that will divide the country. This is politics taken too far,” he added.
