Meta Platforms’ microblogging service, Threads, has introduced a new search functionality designed to enhance user experience and challenge its competitor, Bluesky. The feature allows users to refine their search for posts by specifying date ranges and user profiles, offering more control over content discovery.
The upgrade, announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, marks a significant improvement to Threads’ search capabilities. “Today we’re beginning to test a couple of long-overdue improvements to Search and Trending Now on Threads,” Mosseri shared in a post. He described the new features as essential updates, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to user feedback.
While Threads’ advanced search offers a streamlined experience, it still lags behind X (formerly Twitter), which boasts a more comprehensive set of tools, including filters for hashtags, excluded terms, languages, keywords, and exact phrases.
In addition to the search upgrade, Threads is rolling out a Trending Page in the United States. This new feature includes AI-generated summaries of trending discussions, allowing users to explore hot topics with ease. Threads aims to expand the trending feature to include more topics and insights, offering a richer user experience.
According to an official Threads announcement, the search enhancement will be available to users worldwide in the coming weeks, providing a more versatile way to navigate the platform.
Meta’s Threads, which builds on Instagram’s social graph, continues to position itself as a viable alternative to X in the competitive social media landscape. This latest feature underscores its commitment to innovation and user-centric improvements.
