Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi over comments suggesting that he does not need to campaign in the state ahead of the January 16, 2027 election.
Titiansloaded reports that Wike made the remarks on Saturday, November 7, 2026, while addressing the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The event was broadcast by Channels Television.
At the rally, the FCT minister assured President Bola Tinubu that political groups operating under the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State were prepared to support his re-election campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Wike said its members had agreed to mobilise votes for Tinubu in the January 2027 election.
He later turned his attention to Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, referring to comments he claimed to have heard during a News Central broadcast on Friday.
According to Wike, Amaechi had questioned why some politicians were campaigning regularly, suggesting that his popularity meant he did not need to engage in similar activities.
Wike challenged the former governor to stand by the reported position, insisting that it should be publicly documented so he could not later claim to have campaigned in Rivers State.
“So let it be on record, let it be on record, that the vice-presidential candidate of ADC has told the world that he does not need to campaign in Rivers State,” he said.

The minister also warned Amaechi against blaming electoral malpractice if the ADC failed to secure the expected support in the state.
He argued that a candidate who chooses not to campaign should not later attribute an unfavourable election outcome to rigging.
“Let it not be tomorrow now, he said he campaigned and the election was rigged. He did not campaign and nobody is going to vote for him. Let it not be tomorrow,” Wike added.
