Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi has said he would walk away from his wife if she became president and governed Nigeria in the same manner as President Bola Tinubu.
Titiansloaded reports that Amaechi made the statement during an interview with Rapid TV, where he urged Nigerians to assess the President’s performance ahead of the 2027 general election rather than make political decisions based on religion, ethnicity or party loyalty.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said his affection for his wife would not prevent him from rejecting her leadership if her policies and performance mirrored those of Tinubu.

He said, “Today, the closest person in my life is my wife, not my children. So tomorrow, if my wife becomes president and is doing what Tinubu is doing, I’ll be mad to follow my wife, despite my emotional attachment to her. It’s either she changes, or I leave her.”
Amaechi called on Nigerians to set aside personal and political affiliations and consider supporting the opposition in the next presidential election.
“I expect Nigerians not to… forget religion, forget politics, forget ethnicity. Just abandon Tinubu,” he said.
He argued that Nigerians had already experienced Tinubu’s leadership and should give the opposition an opportunity to govern.

According to him, voters should compare the records of the current administration with the proposals of the opposition before making their choice in 2027.
“There’s a difference between Tinubu’s team and our team. They have been tested, so you know that the next four years you will die. We have not been tested, so give us a chance,” he said.
The former governor, however, acknowledged that his own record in public office was open to scrutiny, noting that he had served as governor of Rivers State and as a minister.
Amaechi urged Nigerians to examine the projects and achievements recorded during his tenure, insisting that his performance could be independently assessed.
“The only person you can say that has been tested is me, because I’ve been a governor. But my record speaks for itself. I was once a minister. Projects are out there,” he said.

He added that Rivers State remained available for public assessment, encouraging Nigerians to verify his record as governor.
Amaechi also maintained that neither he nor ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar had occupied the offices of president or vice-president at the national level.
Criticising Tinubu’s administration, the former minister used the computer expression “garbage in, garbage out” to argue that returning the President to office would produce similar outcomes.
He further urged Nigerians to take an active role in the 2027 election and remain vigilant to prevent alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
