Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has come out to accuse President Bola Tinubu’s government of abandoning the North-Central region amid the rampant killings. He recently revealed that insecurity has worsened across North-Central states because the Federal Government decided to ignore the region completely.
Speaking via a press statement on X, Atiku shared that the current government has clearly failed to protect its citizens, and it is obvious that President Tinubu has abandoned the North-Central region despite the intense bloodshed.
According to him, even Kwara, which used to be one of the safest states across Nigeria at some point, has become a den for all kinds of bandits and kidnappers.
He stated that Plateau and Benue residents keep burying their dead on a daily basis while the FG acts unbothered.
“The resurgence of killings in the North-Central shows clearly that the Tinubu administration has abandoned the region to bloodshed.
Kwara, once safe, is now a hotspot of bandit and kidnap attacks. Niger State has seen militants attack military bases, murder soldiers, and even massacre worshippers in a mosque. Plateau and Benue continue to bury their dead while the Federal Government looks away,” he wrote.

Atiku further noted that by May 2025, “over 10,000 lives had been lost in Northern states,” with Benue allegedly accounting for more than half of those deaths.
He concluded by describing the dire situation as “a monumental failure in the basic duty of securing lives and property.”
