Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna, has said that clout is the new currency in the country’s entertainment industry. He recently shared his thoughts on the lengths some Nigerians are willing to go in the pursuit of fame.
Speaking via his social media page, IK wrote that while some citizens are more than willing to buy attention with money, others are now very prepared to become famous by tarnishing other people’s image.
According to him, some people now resort to being extra loud on the internet to attain recognition, and he can only warn them that forced fame will only bring temporary hype that will lack any lasting impact.
“In today’s world, clout is the new currency and a lot of people are desperate to spend. Some use money to buy attention, others tear down already established names, and many just become loud for the sake of being noticed,” he wrote.
Emphasising how real legacy is only built on truth, talent, and consistency, the actor urged Nigerians to focus on finding their true purpose in life, since that is the only way they can find authentic fulfilment.
He maintained that the pressure to remain relevant should not force people into engaging in fickle online activities that have no solid foundation, stressing that the same internet that hails you today can easily cancel you tomorrow.
“But the truth is, not all fame is created equal. Forced fame might get you quick recognition and momentary hype, but it rarely lasts. There’s no solid foundation, just noise. The pressure to stay relevant becomes overwhelming, and the same internet that crowned you today can cancel you tomorrow. In the end, it’s not the fame you gathered that matters it’s how you gathered it. Fame without purpose fades. But fame built on truth, talent, and consistency? That’s legacy,” he added.
