The National Judicial Council (NJC) has officially cleared Hon. Justice Oyebola Ojo, the Chief Judge of Osun State, of all allegations of misconduct, including financial recklessness, diversion of funds, and improper judicial conduct. The decision follows a thorough review of petitions submitted against the judge.
Titansloaded reports that the council adopted the recommendations of a three‑member investigation committee set up to probe multiple complaints against Justice Ojo. The NJC announced the decision during its 110th meeting held on January 13 under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere‑Ekun.
Petitions were filed by several parties, including a staff member of the Osun State Customary Court of Appeal, the state’s JUSUN chairman, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, the Attorney-General, and four alleged members of the State Judicial Service Commission. Complainants accused Justice Ojo of staff suspensions, selective promotions, halting training programmes, ignoring court orders, and misappropriating funds.
During the investigation, all parties presented evidence, with witnesses called to substantiate claims. The NJC found that some petitions, particularly one filed on behalf of the State Judicial Service Commission, were procedurally incompetent due to membership issues pending before the courts.
The council also ruled that staff suspensions followed due process and fell within the disciplinary committee’s authority. Issues relating to training and promotions were deemed to be within the statutory responsibilities of the State Judicial Service Commission.
Crucially, the NJC confirmed there was no evidence that Justice Ojo diverted robe allowances, misused funds for retreats, withheld e‑affidavit proceeds, or personally benefited financially. The council dismissed all petitions against him, effectively exonerating the Chief Judge of all allegations.
The decision reinforces the NJC’s commitment to upholding judicial integrity while ensuring complaints are investigated fairly and transparently. Justice Ojo’s clearance restores confidence in the administrative processes of the Osun State judiciary.
