Popular singer and activist Seun Kuti has blasted Nigeria’s political system. He recently described the country’s leaders as religious nutjobs who cannot be taken seriously.
Speaking via an Instalive session, Seun condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for preventing political growth in the country.
According to him, INEC has failed to reopen its registration portal since 2019 because it is a deliberate attempt to suppress young Nigerians from participating in politics.
“Brothers and sisters, since 2019, INEC has not opened any registration portal. Instead, they register people up and down. INEC has refused to open the portal. They don’t want Nigerians to grow politically,” he said.
He criticized the electoral body for aiding the domination of right-wing conservative forces in Nigeria’s political landscape, with zero space left for progressive ideologies.

“With the three political systems that are there, INEC cannot change anything. We need more political voices. Nigeria has none left. Nigeria is full of conservative right-wing politicians. We have right-wing fascist politicians only,” Seun said.
Kuti further noted that our politicians are mad people who will not hesitate to kill people and shoot down states when things don’t go their way.
He concluded by saying that Rivers State is the perfect symbol of right-wing fascism in Africa.
“Mad people that would kill people! I mean, look at Rivers State. That’s a fascist way of governance. That is a right-wing government style. ‘My way on the highway’ – they start killing people, shooting certain states, and bringing military administration.
All our politicians are religious nutjobs. All of them, religion don scatter their brains. Rivers State is the symbol of right-wing fascism in Africa. INEC has brought us into right-wing fascist politics. They are all right-wing. Right, totally right-wing. None of them are Pan-Africanists,” he added.
