Kcee and Flavour Clash Over Allegations of Plagiarism in Music Industry

Nigerian music stars Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, and Chinedu Okoli, affectionately called Flavour, are embroiled in a public feud over accusations of plagiarism within the industry.

The conflict ignited when Flavour, on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), made a cryptic post that many interpreted as a jab at Kcee. “Copy copy akaria,” he tweeted, prompting speculation about who he was referencing.

Observers quickly connected the dots, pointing to Kcee’s recent foray into Afropop, highlife, and Igbo cultural music as the likely target of Flavour’s comments. Kcee did not take long to respond, asserting his musical pedigree and warning Flavour to choose his battles wisely.

In his retort on X, Kcee emphasized that Flavour was not on his level, stating, “Bro, we are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully.” He further criticized Flavour for attempting to “gatekeep” Igbo culture, declaring, “You’re not a custodian. I’ve been in this game before you. It belongs to all.”

Kcee expressed pride in his music, which he says celebrates Igbo heritage without apology. He asserted, “You don’t own this genre of music. My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize. In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle. Get that right.”

The exchange highlights the competitive nature of the Nigerian music industry and raises questions about cultural ownership. As both artists continue to defend their artistic integrity, fans are left to wonder how this feud will unfold in the public eye.
