The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that he will run for president in 2027. He recently refuted reports saying he is set to become the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi revealed that he’ll only be running for president because he believes he is very qualified for the position.
Reacting to rumours that he might pair up with Atiku as his vice, he stated that nobody has discussed running as a deputy with him, stressing that the reports are all false.
According to him, there have been a lot of made-up rumours ever since he joined the coalition, and Nigerians should learn to ignore anything they do not officially hear from him.
“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.
This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C,” he said.

Obi further noted that he remains a vibrant Labour Party member despite joining the ADC, reaffirming his loyalty to the political party.
He concluded by saying that his decision to join the coalition is to deliver a president who is compassionate enough to save Nigeria.
“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he added.
