The Catholic Diocese of Wukari in Taraba State has announced the passing of one of its senior priests, Rev. Fr Nicholas Kyukyundu, following a prolonged illness, leaving the local Catholic community in mourning.
Titansloaded reports that Fr Kyukyundu, who until his death served as the Parish Priest of St John the Apostle Parish, Geraga, passed away on Monday, 11 November 2025, at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari. He was 66 years old. Born on 6 January 1959, he was ordained a Catholic priest on 29 June 1991, dedicating more than three decades to pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and community service.
In an official statement, the Chancellor of the Diocese, Very Rev. Fr Simon Akuraga, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Fr Kyukyundu, describing him as a devoted servant of God whose humility, compassion, and dedication left a lasting impact on the faithful. “It is with deep sorrow and yet with complete acceptance of God’s will that we announce the demise of Rev. Fr Nicholas Kyukyundu,” the statement read. “He touched many lives through his faith, pastoral care, and unwavering commitment to God’s work. His memory will remain evergreen in the hearts of all who knew him.”

The Catholic Diocese of Wukari has outlined burial arrangements to honour the late priest. A wake will be held on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at St Mary’s Cathedral, Wukari, followed by a funeral Mass on Thursday, 20 November 2025, at 10:00 a.m. These ceremonies will provide parishioners, colleagues, and the wider Catholic community the opportunity to pay their final respects and celebrate his life and contributions.
Fr Kyukyundu’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences and tributes from members of the Catholic community across Taraba State and beyond. He has been remembered as a “true shepherd,” a “man of peace,” and a priest whose life was marked by dedication to spiritual leadership and service to humanity. Parishioners have highlighted his role in guiding the youth, supporting families, and fostering community development within his parish and the Diocese at large.
The Diocese emphasised that while the community mourns, Fr Kyukyundu’s legacy of faith, compassion, and pastoral care will continue to inspire generations of Catholics in Taraba State. His service, spanning more than 30 years, is celebrated as a model of priestly commitment, humility, and devotion to God’s mission.
