The school marked the International Day of the Girl Child with an awareness programme celebrating women’s achievements, encouraging girls’ aspirations and highlighting the importance of investing in their future.
Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy marked the International Day of the Girl Child with an awareness programme promoting girls’ rights, education, and empowerment, while highlighting the need to end child marriage.
The event was held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the school premises in Abule Egba, Lagos, following the global observance of the International Day of the Girl Child on Sunday, October 11.
With the theme, “Ending Child Marriage and Investing in the Girl Child,” the programme focused on the importance of protecting girls, supporting their development and ensuring they have opportunities to fulfil their potential.
Speaking during the event, the school’s Assistant Headteacher highlighted the importance of the girl child in society, noting the valuable contributions girls can make to their families, communities and the nation when provided with the right support and opportunities.
The Assistant Headteacher also referenced successful women who started their journeys as young girls, explaining how their achievements demonstrate the importance of nurturing girls through education, encouragement and proper guidance.
The address encouraged the students to believe in their abilities, recognise their worth and remain committed to their academic and personal development. It also underscored the need for families, schools and society to create supportive environments where girls can grow into confident and productive adults.
A special spa session formed part of the day’s activities, giving the students an opportunity to relax and enjoy a pampering experience as the school celebrated the occasion.
The session added a recreational element to the programme, making the celebration memorable while reinforcing the importance of recognising and appreciating girls.
Beyond the festivities, the theme drew attention to the consequences of child marriage, which can disrupt education, limit personal development and reduce opportunities for girls to achieve their aspirations.
Addressing the challenge requires sustained awareness, access to quality education, community support and measures that protect children’s rights. Investment in the girl child also includes mentorship, skills development, emotional support and opportunities to participate meaningfully in society.
Through the celebration, Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for girls to learn, develop their talents and pursue their ambitions without barriers that undermine their future.
The programme reminded everyone that empowering girls is not only a responsibility for families and educational institutions but also an investment in society’s future.
As the world continues to advocate for the protection and advancement of girls, the school’s observance reinforced the message that every girl deserves access to education, protection, encouragement and the opportunity to succeed.
