Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele is set to take her latest movie, The Four, to one of London’s prominent cinema venues, with its United Kingdom premiere scheduled for November 29.
Titiansloaded reports that the event will hold at Odeon Luxe, Leicester Square, London, according to an announcement Akindele shared on her verified Instagram account on Monday.
The filmmaker described the screening as a major achievement for Nigerian cinema, claiming it would be the first time a Nollywood production premieres at the prestigious venue.
Akindele announced the event in a post celebrating the collaboration between Funke Akindele Network and FilmOne Entertainment.
She wrote: “LONDON, WE’RE COMING! History is about to be made. Funke Akindele Network and FilmOne Entertainment are proud to announce the UK Premiere of THE FOUR at the iconic ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, London, on November 29th.
“For the first time ever, a Nollywood title will premiere at this prestigious location, marking another significant milestone for Nigerian cinema on the global stage.”
The announcement follows Akindele’s recent partnership with Facebook, which is aimed at promoting Nollywood storytelling and extending the international reach of her film productions.
Her post has received more than 20,000 likes, with several entertainment figures, including Mo Bimpe and Enioluwa, congratulating her on the development.
The Four is scheduled for its official premiere on December 11. The project is the latest production from Akindele, an award-winning filmmaker widely recognised for her record-breaking success at the Nigerian box office.
