Senior defence officials from the United Kingdom and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations during a strategic visit to the headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Boris Bovecamp, assured Nigerian military commanders of sustained cooperation in the fight against insurgency in the North-East. The engagement focused on expanding tactical and operational collaboration.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, the visit underscores continued international backing for Nigeria’s efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating within the region. The diplomats described the partnership as critical to stabilising affected communities.
Brig.-Gen. Harper highlighted the longstanding defence relationship between the UK and Nigeria, rooted in shared democratic principles and security interests. He commended the resilience of Nigerian troops and acknowledged recent operational gains recorded against insurgent groups.
The British official also reiterated the role of the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) in providing training and advisory support. He emphasised that capacity building remains central to enhancing Nigeria’s military effectiveness.
Col. Bovecamp stated that Germany seeks to broaden areas of defence cooperation with Nigeria. He noted that strengthening technical expertise and regional security frameworks would further improve tactical outcomes in ongoing counter-terrorism missions.
Responding, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the support provided by both nations. He said previous training initiatives and advisory assistance have contributed to improved operational readiness among Nigerian forces.
Abubakar stressed that deeper collaboration in logistics, intelligence sharing, and equipment support will be essential to consolidating gains in the North-East theatre. He underscored the need for sustained partnerships to counter evolving security threats.
