Massey Children’s Hospital has hosted its 2025 Stakeholders Meeting, an annual forum designed to engage community members and partners in discussing the hospital’s achievements, challenges, and areas requiring government and management intervention for improved service delivery and development.
Titansloaded reports that the event also marked the first official visit of Dr. Cecilia Abimbola Mabogunje to the hospital following her recent appointment as Permanent Secretary of the Health Service Commission (HSC). Her return to Massey Children Hospital, where she previously served as Medical Director from 2019 to 2023, was met with excitement in what many described as a symbolic “homecoming.”
Held at the hospital’s Conference Room on Lagos Island, the meeting adopted the theme: “Reflecting On Our Past, Present and Projecting To The Future.” The programme, organised by the Service Charter team, attracted stakeholders, staff, community representatives, and senior officials from the health sector.
In her goodwill message, Chairman of the Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, encouraged participants to freely express their views, stressing that honest dialogue is crucial for development. She appealed for continued support from the community, philanthropists, and partners, noting that Massey Children Hospital remains a vital institution dedicated to the wellbeing of every child.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mabogunje highlighted the longstanding vision of the hospital’s leadership, a vision she said has guided the steady progress of Massey Children Hospital over the years. She acknowledged the widespread anticipation surrounding the new Massey Hospital currently under construction, expressing optimism about its future impact on paediatric care in Lagos State.
The Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Olanike Abosede Olutekunbi, thanked attendees for honouring the invitation, describing the meeting as an interactive session essential for continuous improvement. She reaffirmed the hospital’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing child healthcare and appreciated the contributions of past Medical Directors whose efforts laid the foundation for today’s successes.
Mrs. Joan Oluyemi Yetunde, Service Improvement Officer from the Ministry of Health, emphasized the need for collective support to help Massey Children Hospital grow, especially with the ongoing construction of the new facility. She also called on stakeholders to work with the Local Government to address frequent road blockages caused by social events in the surrounding area—obstructions that often hinder emergency movements for children.
Other speakers included former Medical Director Dr. Abiejuwa Emokpae and several community stakeholders who raised important questions, all of which were addressed by relevant hospital personnel. Staff members also added colour to the event by appearing in customised attire designed specifically for the occasion.
A highlight of the well-attended meeting was the screening of a short documentary showcasing the hospital’s journey—its past, present, and aspirations for the future. Award presentations were also made to notable personalities, including Dr. Mabogunje and Dr. Emokpae, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth of Massey Children Hospital.
Dignitaries in attendance included HSC’s Commissioner II, Dr. Mobolaji Ayotunde Olukoya; Commissioner II, Dr. (Pharm.) Moyosore Adejumo; Commissioner IV, Dr. (Nurse) Ololade Fadipe; and Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Ruth Awobajo, who represented the Director of Nursing Services, among others.
The meeting reaffirmed Massey Children Hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement, community collaboration, and quality paediatric care as it prepares for a new era with the soon-to-be-unveiled upgraded facility.
