Global music icon Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has officially announced his return to Nigeria following his electrifying performance at the 2025 Greater Lagos Countdown.
The event, which took place on December 31, 2024, at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, marked the grand finale of the Lagos State Government’s annual end-of-year celebration. The star-studded occasion attracted thousands of music lovers and residents eager to ring in the New Year with style.
In his address to the ecstatic crowd, Wizkid expressed his joy at being back in his homeland. He said:
“First of all, Happy New Year! You will live long, you will be wealthy. Long life and good health shall be for you and all your family. I have a very important message for you today, Lagos, Nigeria. I want you to know that your son Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, Machalla, the biggest bird, is back home now.”
The 34-year-old megastar, who has graced stages worldwide, delivered a captivating performance alongside other A-list Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Seyi Vibez, BNXN, and Qinq Madi.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who announced the lineup earlier in December, described the event as Africa’s biggest countdown celebration. The governor reiterated his commitment to showcasing Lagos as a hub of culture, entertainment, and tourism.
The Greater Lagos Countdown continues to set the pace as a premier New Year’s Eve celebration in Africa, and Wizkid’s return to Nigeria further solidifies its place as a must-attend event for fans and visitors alike.
