Popular Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has mocked Wizkid for finding it hard to change his name over the years. He recently revealed that the Afrobeats singer has tried to change his stage name several times, but he keeps failing.
Speaking recently during the latest AY live event, the comedian commended Davido for choosing a name that can stand the test of time, unlike his rival, Ayo Balogun.
Basketmouth said that Wizkid clearly made a mistake with the kid in his stage name, and he obviously never considered when he’ll be much older and he’ll no longer be viewed as a kid.
According to him, Ayo Balogun has since realised his error and tried to switch things up with names like “Machala” and “Big Bird,” but none of his rebranding strategies have stuck with his Nigerian fans.
“Wizkid give himself wizkid him forget say him go grow old. Now he is struggling to change the name, nobody gree – machala, na lie you are a Wizkid. Big Bird, na lie, you’re a kid. Wizkid no be as e dey be for. Be for him dey whine waist, dey go choreography on top stage,” he said.

He commended Davido for staying original enough to even use his real name for his music career, reiterating that he doesn’t have to go through the stress of rebranding as he ages.
“David has been consistent. He even used his real name, Davido. Consistent for years. David has been going on stage with a 100 people. Till today him still maintain that number,” he added.
The Nollywood actor and rapper also shaded Burna Boy for adding “Boy” to his stage name, suggesting that he’ll soon begin to encounter the same challenges Wiz is presently facing.
