The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has denied allegations that he forced the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, to resign from office. This is coming after a recent report claimed that Olukoyede, alongside the Director General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi, compelled the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL to sign a resignation letter during a meeting in Abuja.

Reacting via a press statement by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Olu Olukoyede revealed that the allegations are false and defamatory.

According to him, the report was a planned attack on his personal and professional reputation; therefore, he won’t ignore or treat it with levity.

Ola stated that the insinuation that he is being controlled by Olatimbo Ayinde, a British-Nigerian oil businesswoman, is a lie as well.

“The publications and the imputations conveyed by them are so damning and cannot be ignored or treated with levity,” he said.

Olukoyede’s lawyers further warned the brains behind the false publication to acknowledge their wrongdoing and retract the false news.

His legal team concluded by threatening a defamation lawsuit if their demands are ignored.

“He, therefore, demanded that the medium acknowledge your wrongdoing, expressly admit that what you published and imputed against my client are false, apologise for it unreservedly and retract and pull down the stories from your newspaper website and social media handles.

Any failure of compliance with these instructions will result in the issuance of a writ in the tort of defamation,” a statement added.
