President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo (SAN) as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Titansloaded reports that the appointment was confirmed in a letter dated December 23, 2025, issued by the Federal Civil Service Commission on behalf of its chairman. The commission stated that the appointment was made in the public interest.
Oyedepo is expected to assume office following his formal transfer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Civil Service. He will succeed Abubakar Babadoko, who is set to retire on December 31, 2025, after completing his statutory eight-year tenure as a director.
A highly experienced legal practitioner, Oyedepo obtained his law degree from the University of Ilorin and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2008. He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to legal practice and public service.
Before his appointment, Oyedepo served as a senior prosecutor at the EFCC, where he handled several high-profile cases involving corruption and financial crimes. He also headed the Commission’s Monitoring Unit, playing a key role in coordinating major prosecutions and ensuring compliance with legal standards.

He was a prominent member of Nigeria’s legal team in the landmark Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) arbitration case, which ended in a significant victory for Nigeria after a United Kingdom court overturned a multi-billion-dollar arbitral award against the country.
According to sources within the Ministry of Justice, Oyedepo’s appointment is expected to strengthen federal prosecution processes, reduce reliance on external legal consultants, and enhance institutional efficiency in the administration of criminal justice.
As Director of Public Prosecutions, Oyedepo will oversee federal criminal prosecutions, advise government agencies on legal and prosecutorial matters, and represent the Federal Government in criminal appeals and related proceedings.
Observers say the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s resolve to reinforce professionalism, accountability, and effectiveness within Nigeria’s justice system.
