Fitness enthusiast and ex-BBNaija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has shared how life has been for her without a man. She recently revealed the reason behind her prolonged singleness and how caring for a sick parent has shaped her relationships with men.
Speaking in an emotional clip she uploaded on YouTube, Uriel said that her mother’s battle with dementia and stroke placed added responsibilities on her and her younger brother, hence her decision to focus on her mum’s health and remain single.
According to the TV personality, her mother’s condition has gotten so bad to the point where she now has to be taken care of like a child, thereby requiring her undivided attention on a daily basis to prevent further deterioration.
The reality star noted that she has already lost 2 serious relationships because her partners could not cope with the limited time she had to spend with them. Uriel said that when she even considered having her mother move in with her, one of her exes immediately frowned at the idea.

Oputa disclosed that she decided to remain single afterwards, stressing that Nigerians who regularly make fun of her singleness online are only ignorant because they have no clue what it means to make sacrifices for a sick parent.
Uriel confessed that even though such criticism and mockery have affected her mental health in the past, she has learned to shun the negativity and focus on the reason behind why she made the decision to be single.
The TV presenter concluded by saying not everyone will know what you are going through in life, therefore, it is always best to never let any ignorant comment online affect your state of mind.
Her heartfelt confession is further proof that caregivers all over the world deserve more praise than they are currently getting. And it is also a reminder that celebrities also find it hard to navigate life’s many challenges like regular human beings.
