Former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who also doubles as the President of the Nigerian-Finnish Association, has hailed the conviction of Simon Ekpa. He recently described Ekpa’s imprisonment as a “decisive victory for international justice.”
Speaking via a press statement released by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, he praised the Finnish government and the Päijät-Häme District Court for giving Simon Ekpa a well-deserved six-year jail sentence for terrorism charges.
Calling the verdict a “watershed moment,” OGD stated that it will send a “powerful message that the tentacles of terrorism will be severed by the collective will of civilised nations.”
He tagged this solidarity between Nigeria and Finland as a “cornerstone of our mutual trust and a catalyst for greater collaboration in justice and security.”

Gbenga Daniel concluded by saying that the decision defends Nigeria’s sovereignty, stressing that a clear message has been sent to anyone threatening Nigeria’s territorial integrity from abroad.
“The ruling marks a significant leap in Nigeria-Finland relations, moving beyond diplomacy into tangible, impactful cooperation,” he added.
