Ex-Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that Siminalayi Fubara’s current political dilemma is a self-inflicted injury. He recently had his say while confirming their meeting during a live media chat.

Speaking to the press, Wike revealed that Fubara only has himself to blame for failing to heed the advice of political leaders and allies before his suspension.

According to him, he recalls calling Fubara when the issue started, in the presence of Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi, to warn him repeatedly about the need for him to be more humble as Rivers State governor, but his plea fell on deaf ears.

“Yes, he came. He came with two governors and one other person. Unfortunately, the two governors are APC governors, so I will not pursue them. And he said he wants peace — fine. I want peace.

When this thing started, I called him. Seyi Makinde was there, Ortom was there, Ikpeazu was there, Ugwuanyi was there. We sat him down and said: ‘This thing is not good for you. God has given you this office; why not be humble and not allow people to push you?’” he said.

Wike revealed that Fubara was simply told to act like a governor and not abandon people who laboured day and night to get him to that position, but he kept doing the wrong things.

Stressing how the current issues could’ve been prevented, Nyesom insisted that he is a man of peace, and his only issue with Fubara was that he let his status as governor get to his head.

“They kept telling him to act like a governor. We know. Nobody is taking that away — he is a governor. But all I am saying is, don’t abandon people who laboured for you day and night,” Wike said.

Meanwhile, Wike also admitted that the FCT is experiencing problems with regard to open grazing, confirming that work is currently ongoing to tackle the situation.

He stated that a 100-hectare land was earlier designated for grazing reserves in Abuja, but an encroachment by land grabbers ruined his plans.

“The truth is that nobody is happy about it. Governance is not like running a private business — you have to tread carefully.

We are doing everything we can, but we must tread cautiously,” he added.
