The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has distanced itself from allegations of involvement in the investigation of a ₦180 million fraud case linked to an NGO owned by popular social media personality Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, clarified that the FCT Police has no record of the case and is not conducting any investigation into the matter.
“The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it,” Adeh stated. She further advised, “The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”
The controversy began when Otse took to Instagram on Friday, alleging that ₦180 million had been illegally transferred from his NGO’s account. According to him, only ₦20 million remained, while ₦160 million had been diverted.
“I’ve not been myself these past few days,” Otse said in his video. “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and ₦180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”
Despite Otse’s claims, skepticism surrounds the incident, with some questioning the credibility of his account and demanding more transparency regarding the situation.
As the story unfolds, Nigerians await further clarification on the matter and confirmation of the alleged recovery efforts.
