Former senator and spokesperson of the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign, Dino Melaye, has said that his close ties with Atiku Abubakar does not mean he won’t criticize the former Vice President when he is wrong.
He recently revealed that his relationship with the ADC member does not take away his independence.
Speaking during an interview with the press, Dino addressed the claims that he follows Atiku to any political party he joins.
According to him, he is a politician with his own mind, and while he shares a strong bond with Atiku, he never fails to think for himself.
He stated that he’ll definitely call Atiku out when necessary, despite the indestructible relationship they both share.
“I am not a teen and I’ve won elections in this country to the House of Representatives, to the Senate. If there’s convergence of ideology with Atiku Abubakar, it’s a fantastic thing but I am a man of my own.
By the grace of God, I have an indestructible relationship with Atiku Abubakar, but that does not mean I don’t have principles as a human being… When Atiku is not doing the right things, I will say so,” he said.

On his defection from the PDP to the ADC, Dino noted that he left the People’s Democratic Party because of its obvious leadership collapse.
He concluded by saying that Atiku is yet to declare his ambition to run for presidency in 2027, stressing that his friend is more focused on stabilizing the ADC at the moment.
“The PDP became sick, and unfortunately, the party completely lost its direction, leadership, and the current leadership compromised,” he added.
