Popular Nigerian dancer Oluwatosin Solaru has named veteran dance instructor Kaffy as her source of inspiration. Recall that Solaru recently completed a 157-hour dance marathon in Lagos State.
Speaking during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she revealed that Kaffy’s historic 2006 Guinness World Record (GWR) achievement is the reason she believed it was also possible for her to set the historic record.
According to her, she used to think setting records could only be handled by top organizations, but after watching Hilda Baci’s GWR feat years back, she decided to make her own name with her passion.
“Back then, I thought it had to be done by organizations like Silverbird. But after Hilda Baci’s GWR feat last year, I realized it was something I could apply for myself,” she said.

Revealing that her attempt on June 29 at Nile Cinema, Ikota, Lagos cost about ₦3.5 million, Solaru disclosed that despite the restricted support from the beginning, Nigerians started coming through for her after day two of the marathon.
Tosin stated that she just wanted to prove that dance is more than just a hobby because her fellow citizens don’t understand talent enough.
The dancer and writer concluded by saying that she plans to partner with more dancers while organizing workshops across schools in Ogun and Lagos States.
“Nigerians hardly understand talent, let alone embrace talented people. I had to make a clear statement,” she added.
Although the Guinness World Record currently stands at 127 hours, set by India’s Srushti Jagtap in 2023, Solaru exceeded that by 30 hours and is currently awaiting official ratification.
