The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, is advocating for regular screening, sustained advocacy and improved support systems for breast cancer patients. She recently revealed that steps must be taken as part of efforts to reduce the disease’s prevalence in the state.
Speaking during the commemoration of the 2025 World Breast Cancer Awareness Week held in Umuahia, themed “Celebrating Strength in Every Unique Story,” represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Adaeze Emetu, Priscilla said that courageous breast cancer patients are a beacon of hope.
According to her, she can only urge women across the state and Nigeria to embrace early detection and preventive care to improve survival chances.
The first lady stated that she’ll keep doing her best to ensure patients never feel alone during their battle to live.
“We have been reminded that breast cancer affects everyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, or background.
Therefore, get screened, show love, donate, share the word, and advocate for change.
To those currently battling this disease, know that you are not alone. My support remains steadfast — I will stand by your side every step of the way.
And to the survivors, your courage inspires hope for us all,” she said.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Chinenye Nwaka, further reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access and aiding advocacy efforts.
Priscilla concluded by describing the event as a “call to action” to unite everyone in the fight against breast cancer through awareness and early testing.
The event featured a health walk campaign through major streets of Umuahia by the governor’s wife’s representative, government officials and advocacy groups to sensitise residents on the importance of routine screening and self-examination.
