President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has refuted reports suggesting that he ridiculed Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, during a recent plenary session. He recently shared that the reports circulating online are false and misleading.
Speaking via a press statement titled “Clarification on Misleading Reports Regarding Senate Proceedings,” Akpabio said that the reports saying Sani Musa was ridiculed for failing to define the word “harmonized” are not true.
Emphasising that no such thing happened, he said that Senator Musa was only called upon to speak during the plenary, before Senator Abdul Ningi raised a point of order, which needed immediate procedural attention.
According to him, the matter was immediately handled in accordance with established legislative protocol, and the session continued without breaching decorum in any way.
“My attention has been drawn to reports circulating across social media platforms and online blogs which falsely suggest that Senator Sani Musa was ‘rubbished’ during a recent Senate plenary for allegedly failing to define the word ‘harmonized’,” he wrote.

He further hailed Senator Musa’s leadership, stressing that his role as Chairman of the Conference Committee that successfully harmonized the Tax Reform Bills cannot be overemphasized.
Akpabio concluded by saying that media outlets should focus on prioritizing accuracy and responsibility in their coverage of National Assembly proceedings.
“The Nigerian Senate operates on the principles of respect, order, and integrity.
While public engagement is welcome, it is essential that commentary, especially from influential media platforms, is grounded in fact — not sensationalism,” he added.
