Ex-PDP chieftain in EnangAyie clan, Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State, Ntufam Maurice Omin-Iso, has revealed why he defected to the All Progressives Congress alongside his supporters in the state. He recently revealed that he left PDP because the party is presently like a sinking ship in the high sea.
Speaking to newsmen in Calabar, Maurice said that Governor Bassey Otu’s impressive record when it comes to infrastructural development and people-driven policies attracted him to the party.
He revealed that PDP’s structural setting and internal democracy are nothing to write home about, and it is obvious that the party is too divided to accommodate politicians right now.
According to him, no sensible Nigerian politician would like to be in a sinking ship,
therefore, it is only right to look for another political platform that will give him the stability he needs.
“If you look at the structural setting and internal democracy of the PDP, they are not doing well. PDP is divided, besides, it lacks a formidable leadership. No decent Nigerian who is a politician will like to be in a sinking ship.
I saw that Governor Otu is a different politician who is doing well in the area of Infrastructural development.I discovered that APC is doing well. Not only in Cross River state but in Nigeria and I decided to defect from the PDP to the APC.
From the highway to where I reside, he has tarred the road. Otu showed me that he can deliver the goods associated with democracy. With my supporters, we had no option but to decamp to his party, the APC,” he said.

He further noted that he never defected to the APC to avoid being persecuted by APC leaders, so people should stop insinuating that he jumped ship out of fear.
Maurice maintained that he only joined the party because the current government is doing very well, and he wouldn’t have joined if the reverse were the case.
“I have been a progressive, right from time immemorial. Seeing a progressive party I decided to align. I have been in opposition before now, it’s not the first time I am in opposition and decided to cross over to another party.
My Crossing to another party has nothing to do with fear of facing persecution. I saw this present administration doing well, so I decided to join them. If they were not doing well, I would definitely not do that. The Otu’s administration is doing extremely well.
I have been a man who stands on the truth. So what you just said is inconsequential. Besides that, I am not standing any trial against the government or the government standing trial against me in any court of law in Nigeria,” he added.
