Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said that all opposition parties in Nigeria, except the African Action Congress, are controlled by the All Progressives Congress. He recently shared that most of Nigeria’s opposition parties were intentionally created by the APC as special-purpose vehicles for the party’s political convenience.
Speaking on Channels TV on Sunday, Sowore disclosed that the African Action Congress, a party he founded in 2018, is the only genuine opposition among the 18 registered political parties in the country.
According to him, he personally did his research on the matter, and he found out that the remaining opposition parties were actually created by the ruling party to serve as feeder parties to be utilized for its selfish purposes.
“What we found out in our little research is that most of the parties that are left, apart from AAC, are parties that were created by the major parties.
They call them feeder parties or special-purpose vehicles,” he said.

Sowore further noted that these feeder parties are mostly paid to act in APC’s favour during elections, and they even go as far as filing legal challenges that can be manipulated later to suit the ruling party’s wish.
He concluded by saying that it is very obvious to see how these so-called opposition parties often appear ideologically aligned with the APC during their meetings with INEC.
“Sometimes, some of the candidates or the parties are meant to help them with legal challenge.
So they all go and challenge the election, and whomever has won would approach either the opposition party or the smaller parties and settle them.
Everybody gets paid and walks away,” he added.
